The Archdiocese has reached out to St. Michael to respond to a humanitarian crisis along the border in the Diocese of Laredo. Catholic Charities has been receiving an average of 250+ immigrants/day who have crossed the border legally and seeking asylum. Volunteers are desperately needed to help cook, serve, clean, sort donations, take phone calls, welcome people, and drive people to bus stations and airports (shuttles provided). One does not need to speak Spanish to volunteer, even though Spanish speakers would be very helpful. Volunteers will be accommodated with free lodging and food.
Jesus tells us to welcome the stranger. St. Michael will be on the front lines to seek and serve Christ in the immigrant. Our goal is to bring 5-15 people on July 24-27. We would leave Wednesday evening and return late Saturday night. A vehicle will be provided for transportation, but volunteers can bring their own vehicles as well.
